How to prepare a new nib for writing?

There is a thin layer of manufacturer's coating on new nibs to prevent erosion before purchase (as shown on the left nib).

This coating prevents ink from adhering nicely to the nib, therefore causing difficulty for the storage of ink in the vent hole.

To resolve this, we can place the new nib in the flange of penholder, dip it into any ink and then wipe it with a piece of paper towel. Repeat it until the ink completely fills the vent hole (as shown on the right nib). When the vent hole is filled, the ink flows to tip of the nib.
